Graham Hay (Australia)

"Much of our work and recreational time is spent reading from, writing on and filing away paper. (…) The paperless office has become a paper cocoon! Our walls are lined with stacked books and our desks overflow with paper. In turn the paper cocoon provides a capsule of information, knowledge and memory, within and through which we "see" the world outside. My paper comes from documents donated by local inner-city businesses and residents, with the final shape partly inspired by the documents and their source.
The paper is sorted, drilled and threaded onto a long bolt - no glue is used - and the compressed paper is worked in a manner similar to wood. Often the paper is sorted and re-threaded onto the bolt a number of times. (…)
