"I like using tracing paper because it creates a sense of transparency and etherealness in my work. Before I started using tracing paper more than 15 years ago, I used to weave woollen tapestries. Initially I hoped that by using tracing paper my works would remind the viewer of something pure and natural in this world. Gradually, however, I became conscious of another dimension to tracing paper - a membrane, rather like a dividing skin, in between its transparency and opacity. This made me want to represent something more than just the purity or naturalness of this world. Something that we can’t see visually, but does exists in our minds.(…)"
