His first paper objects, exhibited in 1980, were made of torn newspapers and glue. The mixture was spread out on large screens and treated in various ways. When dry, the deposits were reminiscent of large hides, the colour and structure of which suggested subterranean landscapes like those that surface during archaeological excavations. This archaeological element in his work is an essential feature and signifies the perpetual process of change that form and time undergo.
