Nancy Cohen

The juxtaposition of fragility and strength, which is evident in our personal lives and our society, is her source of inspiration. Paper shares these dualities. Paper can become both skin and structure. Working with handmade paper provides an implication of the body, its touch and tenderness, its frailty and endurance. She makes her paper at Dieu Donne paper studio in New York City using a variety of pulps and techniques. She workes primarily with abaca for its translucency and sculptural qualities.
