HPB 2006 Information

For the fifth time the Holland Paper Biennial will be held in Museum Rijswijk from 5 June – 12 September 2004. This time the biennial wil not only take place in Museum Rijswijk but also in the recently opened CODA / Apeldoorns Museum.

The Holland Paper Biennial will consist of an exhibition of the work of around thirty international paperartists, a shop selling books and paper, a paper fair in Museum Rijswijk on Sunday 12 September and a publication, entitled Spirit of Paper.

The exhibition – 5 June to 12 September 2004

This summer 31 international paper artists will be presenting their work at the Holland Paper Biennial, spread over Museum Rijswijk and CODA / Apeldoorns Museum. Twenty of the thirtyone artists will be represented at Museum Rijswijk.

Nature is an important departure point for many of the participating artists. Quite literally because they obtain the material for their paper directly from nature. And figuratively because they reuse all kinds of disposable paper as a way of passing critical comment on the squandering of paper in today’s consumer society.

The installation – 8 June to 15 June

During the first week of the Paper Biennial (8 June - 15 June) Couzijn van Leeuwen will create an installation while the public look on. At breathtaking speed, he will transform a room in the museum into a cavernous space with the aid of overlapping strips of cardboard.
